BTEC in Aviation Studies

BTEC in Aviation Studies provided by Staffordshire Wing All cadets are eligible for this award. The full award is gained when a cadet successfully completes the ATC syllabus i.e. passes examinations at Leading, Senior and Staff Part 1 levels.

The examination subjects are split into units and 3 units must be completed to gain the award:

Unit 1 (mandatory): Covers Basic Aviation, Airmanship and Principles of Navigation (these subjects are covered by the Leading Cadet syllabus).
Units 2 and 3: Cadets can choose from the following subjects which equate to 1/2 a unit each: Aircraft Handling, Propulsion, Air Navigation, Advanced Radio and Radar, Operational Flying, Airframes, Pilot Navigation, and Satellite Communications.

Application Process

Application is simple!

Send a photocopy of your F3521A (blue card), making sure your full first name is on, and send to Flt Lt O'Dell with a cheque for £30 made payable to Staffs Wing BTEC A/C.

Awards are processed in batches and may take a couple of months depending on numbers. Once certificates are received squadrons are notified and individual cadets are invited to attend a presentation evening.
