Cheshire Cadet Gets Top Job
Cadet Flight Sergeant Adrian Young from 230 (Congleton) Squadron has been invested to the prestigious position as the Lord Lieutenant's Cadet for Cheshire for 2007/08.
Successful Summer Swynnerton
The second Summer Swynnerton camp was yet again a resounding success. Visited by Commandant Air Cadets, Air Commodore Gordon Moulds, MBE RAF, the camp gave more than 300 cadets the opportunity to choose from 20 activities taking place throughout the week. From shooting to archery, Duke of Edinburgh Gold Expeditions to first aid, the activities provided training for Staffordshire Wing's cadets.
Passing Out at Tamworth
A Passing Out parade for the newly enrolled cadets at 1122 (Marmion) Squadron has been held at the Sir Robert Peel Hospital. Following a successful recruitment campaign at local schools the probationers were put through a basic training programme. The parade was watched by proud parents who witnessed their sons and daughters at the march past.
Gold Award for Sgt Lester
Sgt Lester from 1046 (Fordhouses) Squadron received his gliding Gold Wings from Officer Commanding Staffordshire WIng, Wing Commander Colin Cope, at a the recent presentation evening, held at Wing Headquarters. Sgt Lester was one of many cadets to receive awards ranging from Gliding Scholarships through to BTEC in Public Services.
Cadets Shine in Lees Trophy Inspection
The long awaited, and much prepared for, final inspection for the Sir Alan Lees Trophy took place at 100 (Nantwich) Squadron. Together with reviewing officer Wing Commander Martin Haswell, Officer Commanding Sussex Wing, were Squadron Leader Dave Taylor from HQ Air Cadets, RAF veterans, local Police and councillors, staff, parents and friends. Even though they were nervous, the cadets shone through and showed why they are the Wales & West Regional nominees for this prestigious trophy.
Life Saving a Plenty at 1122
Sixteen 1122 (Marmion) Sqn cadets are now the proud owners of the Young Life Saver Plus awards, thanks to the purchase of three resuscitation mannequins.
Seeing Red (7) at Cosford Air Show
Rewards come to those who wait and after a long, hot day's work at the 2007 Cosford Air Show, cadets from Staffordshire Wing got to meet the Red Arrows pilots. Standing with Red 7, Flt Lt Paul 'Pablo' O'Grady, are L-R: Cadets Nathan Dawson and Victoria Green from 351 (Burton on Trent) Sqn and Cadets Chris Morgan and Vicky Phillips from 425 (Aldridge) Sqn.
2078 (Boscobel) Take Field Day Trophy
More than 600 cadets and staff enjoyed a sunny Wing field day held at Stafford's 4 Site. The competition from the 31 squadrons was fierce and 2078 (Boscobel) Sqn took the top trophy as Field Day Winners. 1046 (Fordhouses) Sqn came second with 1122 (Marmion) Sqn coming third. Competitions included drill, banner drill, first aid, modelling, aircraft recognition and shooting. For the second year, a photographic competition was run with 12 squadrons entering displays.
Boscobel's Open Day
Codsall Village Hall hosted 2078 (Boscobel) Sqn's successful Open Day, inviting members of the public to attend. Featuring display boards depicting some of the Squadron's activities, achievements and training, there was also a mini 'challenge' course, flight simulator, initiative exercises and an aircraft modelling station. A group of cadets organised and ran the day's activities with the support of their colleagues, the Squadron staff and Civilian Committee members.
Holland, Here We Come!
The Road Marching Team is gearing up it's practice walks to get ready for Nijimegen. The latest walk started from Staffordshire Wing HQ at MoD Stafford and the 12 strong team, chosen from several squadrons throughout the Wing, pounded 50 miles over two days.
IACE Winners Announced
The three IACE (International Air Cadet Exchange) cadets have been announced.
ICWO James Pepper 435 (Newcastle-u-Lyme) Sqn (right) is going to Israel, ICWO Alex Hill 435 (Newcastle-u-Lyme) (left) is going to Ghana and FS Stephanie Harris 2493 (Alsager) Sqn is going to Canada.
Awards Galore at Wing HQ
Staffordshire Wing HQ once again hosted a Presentation Evening but this time, with a twist! The Wing Commander presented the awards, but not the Staffs Wing one! Wing Commander Malcolm Lloyd, Officer Commanding (OC) West Mercian Wing, came along as a guest of honour and presented the awards on behalf of Wing Commander Colin Cope, OC Staffs Wing. Here, Wg Cdr Lloyd is presenting the long awaited BTEC in Public Services certificate to Instructor Cadet Warrant Officer Alex Hill from 435 (Newcastle under Lyme) Sqn.

Air Commodore Gordon Moulds MBE RAF, Commandant Air Cadets, attended the recent Squadron Commanders Conference at MoD Stafford.
Top Cadets Lead the Way
The top cadets from the recent Junior NCO (JNCO) and Senior NCO (SNCO) courses were Corporal Leigh-Ann Whittaker from 1046 (Fordhouses) Sqn (JNCO) and Sergeant Timothy Wood from 481 (West Bromwich) Sqn (SNCO). Congratulations to them both and well done to the other cadets from throughout the Wing who attended the courses.
Polesworth Cadet Celebration
Drayton Manor Park set the scene for 1200 (Polesworth) Squadron's annual presentation evening. Cadets and staff played host to Councillor Chamberlain and Mrs Astley from Polesworth Parish Council with Squadron Leader Roger Jukes representing Staffordshire Wing.
Boscobel Sqn Visit the Queen!
A visit to London wasn't out of reach for 2078 (Boscobel) Squadron; 19 cadets and 2 staff descended on the Capital for a weekend of education and entertainment. Flt Lt Kathy Mason, Commanding Officer 2078 (Boscobel) Sqn arranged for the cadets to visit the Tower of London - a bit of history and a gawp at the Crown Jewels; HMS Belfast - a floating palace it isn't; London Dungeons - finally made the cadets scream; Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus - for a little light entertainment on the Saturday; Houses of Parliament - external view only, Downing Street - for a photo opportunity not to be missed, Horse Guards Parade - for a bit of drill (and you think we're joking), The Mall - for a pleasant stroll in the sunshine, Buckingham Palace - another photo opportunity not to be missed and finally the Imperial War Museum - for a bit of military history on the Sunday.

The recent bad weather meant that many cadets and staff couldn't get to their squadrons. However, 1122 (Marmion) Sqn had the coolest potential recruit on the Wing.

ATC Sunday Celebration at Tamworth
Four squadrons came together on ATC Sunday and celebrated with a church service at St Editha's Church in Tamworth, Staffordshire. 351 (Burton on Trent), 1122 (Marmion), 1200 (Polesworth) and 1206 (Mercian) squadrons attended a specially arranged church service with the Deputy Mayor of Tamworth, Councillor and Mrs M Oates and Squadron Leader Roger Jukes, Wing Staff Officer, Staffordshire Wing as visiting dignitaries. The Rev Alan Barrett, Wales & West Region & Staffordshire WIng Padre, was also present and delivered the sermon praising the cadets and staff within the ATC.
37 years' Service Recognition for Mr Bagwell
The December 2006 presentation evening held at Staffordshire Wing Headquarters featured awards for Civilian Committee staff, Civilian Instructors and cadets. To present the awards along side Staffordshire Wing Officer Commanding, Wing Commander Colin Cope, were Group Captain Dick Allen, Regional Commandant Wales & West Region, and Rev Alan Barrett, Wales & West Region Padre. The highlight of the awards was the presentation of the Certificate of Meritorious Service to Civilian Instructor Terry Bagwell. Terry has been at 1871 (Rugeley) Squadron for 37 years and received his certificate from Group Captain Dick Allen.
A special award was given to John Hindhaugh to say thank you from Staffordshire Wing for his endeavours in the SETPOINT partnership. Mr Hindhaugh is retiring from SETPOINT and his help will be greatly missed.

Alrewas, here we come!
Three cadets and Squadron Leader Mark Brayford, Staffordshire Wing Training Officer, travelled to Bader House in Fairford to collect a cheque for £1000 from the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust. Presented by Sir Michael Knight, Chairman of the RAF Charitable Trust and also President of RIAT, the money is to enable Staffordshire Wing cadets to maintain the RAF Auxiliary memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas for three years.

Borough Council Hero Award for 230 (Congleton) Sqn
230 (Congleton) Squadron have always had a high profile in the local community and now it has been officially recognised!
The Squadron has won the 2006 Hero's 'Group' Award, presented by the Borough Council in recognition of the services given in the community. The Award, in the shape of a solid engraved glass block, and a framed certificate were awarded at a glittering presentation evening in the town hall hosted by the ex-BBC presenter Nigel Jay. In front of a packed house, Officer Commanding 230 (Congleton) Sqn Flt Lt Eric Westwood and a representative group of cadets, went up to accept the Award.

Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire Cadet Awards
For the second year running, a 1046 (Fordhouses) cadet has been appointed Lord Lieutenant's Cadet. This prestigious appointment means that Flt Sgt Martin Lambeth will now escort the Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire, James Hawley, to the official functions that take place throughout the year. This success for 1046 (Fordhouses) Sqn comes after being selected as the Sir Alan Lees Trophy representatives for the Wales and West Region.
