Vulcan Roll Out Spectacular

Three squadrons from Staffordshire Wing, 351 (Burton on Trent), 1122 (Marmion) and 1206 (Mercian). witnessed the historic roll out of the Vulcan XH558 at Bruntingthorpe on Thursday, 31 August 2006.

Cadets and staff worked very hard throughout the day, assisting with car parking and guarding the entrance to the hangar. It was all worth it, as they had a front row view of the Vulcan rolling out of the hangar.

The day began with briefings from the Vulcan to the Sky personnel, followed by car parking and many other duties. The 22 cadets and six members of staff were asked to help with the many media personnel that arrived, escorting and chatting to the VIPs (including Sir Michael Knight and Sir Jock Stirrup), barrier guarding and of course, having pride of place in front of the hangar whilst the Vulcan was on view in the arena.

The roll out was spectacular and the atmosphere had to be experienced to understand how electric it was. The hangar doors opened to lots of 'smoke' and lights and when the tail appeared, everyone roared!

Cadets and staff even had the privilege of standing underneath the Vulcan's huge wing when it was rolled back into the hangar.

It was a day to be remembered and to be part of.
