Trekking on foot is an important part of AT within the ATC. Trekking is also an option for the expedition section of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme.
Trekking on foot can take place in many different areas and terrain, stretching the individual in both physical fitness and stamina. But trekking on foot is not just a test of physical stamina, it requires planning and preparation before the exercise both in preparing the route to be walked and selecting the correct equipment to take. In addition to this good planning requires consideration of the risks that will or may be presented to the walker and how they can be overcome.
Cadets of Staffordshire Wing went trekking right across the country last year (2003/2004), from Snowdonia to North Yorkshire and the peak district. The Wing took part in a total of 75 Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions plus many one day training walks.
